Instructor Profiles:

Leon Durbin

Leon is Wildwood Navigation's founder and Chief instructor. He has had a lifelong passion for wild places and their exploration.

Leon has built up a broad navigation experience over many years - once a keen orienteerer, he also has many years of mountain walking experience whilst living in Scotland, plus walking experience in Patagonia, Greece, India, California and South Africa. He has been a professional navigation instructor since 2006.

Leon holds an NCFE Professional Development Certificate for the Outdoor Industry. The qualification was centred around bushcraft and survival skills but included an advanced Navigation teaching element. On the strength of this he was accepted as a provider of the National Navigation Awards Scheme Bronze Award in 2008.

He has completed his Summer Mountain Leader Training.

Leon also holds an ITC Level 2 Certificate in Outdoor First Aid.

Tim Willson

Tim is a very keen walker and climber and a qualified Mountain Leader. He has spent many years exploring the British mountains and some of the larger and wilder ranges abroad. He loves the mental challenge that navigation can add to a day out, and regularly competes in orienteering races and Mountain Marathons.

Tim has an extensive range of navigational experience, in good weather and bad, day and night, and deep in the famous Scottish ‘clag’. He really enjoys helping people of all abilities to develop and improve their navigation skills.
