Kit list
Please bring the following items on our navigation courses:
Required
- Suitable outdoor clothing including warm layers (fleece, jumper
etc.), hat, gloves, hiking boots, waterproofs (you must be sure that
your outer shell layer is water-proof and breatheable). N.B. for a
low level summer courses you should use your judgement on clothing,
but for any mountain-based course the above are essential.
- note book and pencil
- packed lunch for day courses
- torch (ideally head torch) + spare batteries (for day courses held
in the winter)
- mobile phone (if you have one)
- sun screen
- water bottle
In addition to the above requirements for a day course on an overnight
mountain course requires the following items:
- mountain tent
- warm sleeping bag (3 season +)
- mattress (e.g. ThermaRest, roll mat)
- food for meals, such as boil in the bag and lunches
- snacks for between meals
- wash kit and towel
- camping stove and spare gas
- pots, mug, cutlery and plate/mess tin
Optional
- Compass (we recommend Silva Expedition 4 if you are buying one)
(compasses are available for loan - let us know if you wish to borrow
one)
- OS map 1:25,000 of the area and mapcase (maps are available for
loan)
- personal First Aid kit
- insect repellent (strongly recommended for Scotland in summer!)
